First
responses
The graph opposite shows the
accumulation of questionnaire submissions, both on individual days and as
a cumulative number at the very beginning of posting on the WWW. Days 5, 12, 19 etc. are Mondays and so their individual
tallies are really weekend totals (although our server was down for the whole
of the second weekend). The power of the internet in accumulating useful
data of this type is demonstrated by the speed with which the replies came
in. It is also apparent that panic attack disorder is experienced by a lot
of people and that many of them are using the internet to seek information
and help.
Update December
1997
We have been surprised - and overwhelmed!- by the fact that there has been
no change at all in the frequency with which we are getting responses since
the start in February. The graph opposite shows the questionnaire page
hits and responses over the period February - December 1997. The responses
have been invaluable in showing that panic attacks are still prevalent throughout
the world - irrespective of culture, education, gender, employment etc..
The concern people have in not getting satisfactory treatment, despite
the availability of medication and other treatments, comes across clearly
in responses and comments.
New page on medication usage added.
Update December 1998 The responses will make this the largest collection of data from panic attack subjects. As the Internet continues to attract new participants, so do we continue to receive questionnaire responses.
Update: 15th December 1998: new pages on periods for which respondents have experienced panic attacks, when the last one was and on occupations of respondents. A long time since the last update unfortunately - this isn't the only thing we do......... More analysis is in progress.
Update February 2000Not a lot of progress on the questionnaire analysis unfortunately. Our attention has been elsewhere - Andjelka submitted her PhD thesis and was viva'd in April. She is now Dr A. Stones. A paper in the Journal of Affective Disorders was published and another manuscript submitted. A grant proposal was submitted and turned down.......but we'll keep trying....... The site has been updated overall and this page is new.
