On 26th February 1997, we mounted a questionnaire on panic attacks on the University server and distributed its URL through various sites. We are receiving a continuous stream of responses which indicates the need for and viability of this sort of research approach. (If you have experenced panic attacks and wish to participate in the research, the URL for the questionnaire is www.wmin.ac.uk/~stonesa/paq/paq.htm)
These pages are by way of a thank you to everyone that has taken part. The web site aims to set out some basic statistics on the project. The inputting of the replies and statistical analysis will take many months and so the info posted here really will be basic for some time to come. Analyses will be submitted for publication in the literature. So far we are unfunded for this project and so have to fit the work in as time allows.
The questionnaire initially formed part of a self-funded PhD project study into the psychophysiological correlates of panic attacks. We converted it into an online version. The PhD project is completed, but it is hoped that it will be followed by another research project here. Previous results indicate that the people who suffer panic attacks unconnected to any previous phobias might constitute a distinct psychophysiological population. In addition, it appears that different cue symptoms indicate the possibility of panic disorder being linked to various other anxiety disorders as well as previous life events.
Some facts of the history of the questionnaire are presented in the next page.
If you wish to go straight on to the statistics pages rather than looking at that page, use the list of links below.
Some basic statistics can be found on the pages linked to from the list below.
We will add to these as time allows. These pages are primarily aimed at people
suffering from panic attacks, particularly those participating in this
survey.
