'Mariners and Migrants: in Search of Home' comprises two installations 'Sent to Sea' and 'Hrimceald Sae'.

They are based on research into 19th-century child migrants and young sailors who sailed the transatlantic route between Great Britain and Canada

They were produced during a year long artist's residency at the National Maritime Museum when I had extensive access to their archives. This was supplemented by material gathered during a journey to Canada.I sailed by container ship to Montreal and eventually reached Hearts Content in Newfoundland .

(This was made possible through a Winston Churchill travelling fellowship, the Arts Council and Leverhulme artist-in-residence awards.)
